Microsoft Surface Tablet

Since the debut of Apple’s mega-seller iPad, now in its third generation, technology manufacturers have tried again and again to win some of the spotlight from their beautifully designed aluminum and glass competitor. Despite software backing with Google’s Android platform to rival Apple’s iOS, we’ve seen a string of mediocre launches that can fundamentally do the job but can’t capture that “cool and hip” element that Apple has pioneered with its products.
While many thought former smartphone giant RIM, creator of the Blackberry, could make a dent in the market, consumers were utterly disappointed by a similarly priced unit that lacked 3G functionality at launch; despite promises one would follow, a revised version hasn’t been seen on the horizon. In fact, RIM had to resort to slashing prices to well below market value last fall in order to clear stock from its warehouses, where it sat collecting dust.

While recent entrants to the market, the so-called e-reader/tablet hybrids such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Kobo’s VOX, planned to make the leap in order to capture the low-cost market, not one company has been able to challenge Apple’s dominance in the tablet market. But that, quite possibly, is about to change.
Arch-rival and software giant Microsoft took an unprecedented step yesterday and pulled a move right out of Apple’s marketing book to introduce their first tablet, known as the Surface.
The tactics included top-secret media invitations, an undisclosed location and virtually no information about what journalists were to be shown, just a casual, “This will be a major Microsoft announcement — you will not want to miss it.” Did it work? We would definitely reckon so, but it presents a number of pertinent questions and situations.

The most important fact that needs to be understood is that this really is an unusual path for the company to take. While most consumers remember the “I’m a Mac and you’re a PC” ads, many have assumed that anytime “PC” is mentioned, it is synonymous with Microsoft. While the Windows software maker has been an industry leader, it makes a point of not releasing its own branded hardware (XBOX 360 excepted), which keeps its third-party manufacturer partners happy and its bank account brimming.
While the Surface is to run off Microsoft’s highly anticipated Windows 8 platform, being released this fall, a number of its third-party partners will also be releasing tablets using the software. Cue the awkwardness in that boardroom.
By entering the hardware game, Microsoft not only risks its own business relationships but is putting its reputation on the line as well (well, since Vista, that is). It will be interesting to see how it pans out on that front.
The slickly designed Surface measures 10.6” across its HD screen, weighs in at an easy 903 grams and is configurable with either 64 or 128 GB of presumably flash memory. Input-wise, the device has a microSDXC slot, USB 3.0 and a Mini DisplayPort for video.

Last month we headed overseas to cover the 2012 MINI United Festival, and while we were packing our Pro D-SLR and a random assortment of other AV equipment, we weren’t sure what would be the best option for video due to the nature of racing cars down the German autobahn, testing out vehicles on Circuit Paul Ricard in southern France and a plethora of other activities not favorable to $1000+ recording equipment.
While several Playboy.com staffers pushed for the iPhone’s HD capability and versatility, one unfortunate twist in the road and that slick techno-candybar would be sent flying under the truck behind us going 120 mph. With that in mind, we went against our usual judgment and decided to bring along one of Panasonic’s new active-style camcorders: the HX-DC2, which was unveiled earlier this year at CES.

Camera

• 14-megapixel sensor
• Extremely light — easy enough to sling around your wrist when carrying or slip it into your pocket
• Number of shooting modes that produce photos that really do stand out. - Our favorite is the art mode (right), which turns your photo into a sort of painting

Video

• Clear HD video with relatively decent audio
• Makes use of a 4-axis electronic image stabilizer
• Two levels of zoom (5x optical, 15x intelligent)
• Rotating 3.0” LCD screen - Keep tucked down when sticking the device out of a car at slightly dangerous speeds (to be fair, it did survive that test…barely)

Cons

• Unless you’re in a fairly well lit environment, the lack of weight can make it hard to steady your hand, producing a slightly blurred image - stick to daytime shooting
• Zoom is hard to control when shooting on the move

Nokia 808 PureView

In recent time is not recorded good results with its phones, especially those with the operating system "images", but "Nokia" has always been to invent better camera equipment. Now its phones has improved to a level even higher when it comes to their camera. A few weeks ago, officially introduced the Nokia 808 phone PureView, who owns the camera of 41 megapixels, where there are more pixels than most cameras on the market. Due to the particular technology have achieved that goal so great to put on this phone. The price of this device is around 550 euros.

Samsung Galaxy S3
Warning device for a long time the South Korean giant did not upset anyone. Besides the characteristics of the camera delivers excellent quality. It has eight megapixels, same as the predecessor of this phone, but this phone have improved some things, from which most software. Colors offered are "live" while the whole picture is quite sharp. The best thing of course that this device offers the speed of work and photography, which is very high and makes this phone special. Samsung Galaxy G3 costs about 500 euros.

HTC One X
Excellent phone Taiwanese company is a worthy competitor of other companies when it comes to hardware and software, especially the camera. Like most phones of this generation, this has eight megapixels, but the 'HTC' has developed several software improvements in order to better photography. Possesses the possibility of photographing the "HDR" as the "Burst", so that carries four photos in one second, until the user can freely move the phone. One smart phone HTC X costs 450 euros.

iPhone 4S
Although there are nearly a year that has emerged in the market, iPhone 4S inserted among the best phones in all its components, and thus to the camera. The company "Apple" with this model presented some necessary improvements, which were desperately needed, such as the provision of 73 percent more illumination compared with the previous camera. It also accelerated his way of working, which means that the pictures are better quality, much brighter and cleaner colors. The phone costs about 600 euros.

The new iPhone will have an even thinner screen thanks to advances in LCD manufacturing, according to reports. The latest Apple gadget will feature ‘in-cell technology’ which has touch sensors in the screen instead of another layer on top as it is now.The difference would make the new iPhone about half a millimeter thinner but the image quality would actually improve, the Wall St Journal claimed. It would also allow Apple to better take on Samsung’s Galaxy S III which has organic light-emitting displays which do not need to be backlit and are thinner than iPhone screens.Samsung has been touting the feature as a major selling point to persuade customers to make the switch.

The iPhone 4 is 9.3mm deep compared to 8.6mm for the Galaxy S III.

Apple’s liquid crystal makers Sharp, Japan Display Inc and LG Display are said to be making hundreds of thousands of panels that will be used in the new iPhone, possibly the 5th version.A thinner screen would make the device more attractive but would also make extra room for more components or features. It could also allow more space for the battery which could extend the life of the iPhone, a constant complaint amongst users.According to the Wall St Journal however ‘LCD makers are finding the manufacturing process challenging and time-consuming’ as they try and find the right balance. There is mounting speculation that the new iPhone will have a screen that is larger than the current iPhone’s 3.5 inch display, even though the company’s late founder Steve Jobs rejected such an idea.
