Resident Evil: Retribution

Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment in the popular video game–adapted film series, is set to release September 14th, 2012. Yes, it’s that time again to watch model and actress Milla Jovovich don a skintight black costume to battle The Umbrella Corporation and flesh-eating zombies. And if that isn’t reason enough to watch the movie, the nonstop action and picturesque fight scenes are.
"The Umbrella Corporation's deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the undead. Meanwhile, Alice (Jovovich) awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex."

Sweet Rides: BMW 640i Gran Coupe

It was only a matter of time before BMW threw their hat into the four-door coupe ring. The Munich automaker had to have seen the hype brought on by the Porsche Panamera, Audi A7 and the Mercedes CLS. Their long-awaited entry into this upscale niche class, the elegant, high-performance 640i Gran Coupe, doesn’t disappoint. Unlike the polarizing design of the Panamera, it’s hard to imagine anyone taking a dislike to the seductive, sleek, athletic Gran Coupe. The elongated hood and pushed-back passenger cabin give the Gran Coupe an eye-catching profile that seems perfectly balanced, more akin to the CLS’s smoothly raked hoodline than the Panamera and A7 with their distinctively asymmetrical back ends. Head-on, the shark-nose contours of the hood, flattened kidney grille and broad air vents lend a muscular, aggressive feel.
The stunning design mates well with the powerful 315-horsepower TwinPower Turbo V6, which unleashes a 0-60 sprint in 5.4 seconds. If that’s not quick enough, BMW will soon follow up with the 650i Gran Coupe, equipped with a 4.4-liter V8, producing 445 horsepower and a blistering 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds. Both models will be available with optional xDrive all-wheel drive, which splits power between the front and rear axles to optimize stability and traction. Drivers will also be able to control handling and performance via the Driving Dynamics Control system. The options, which include Comfort+, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Eco Pro, adjust automotive settings in the direction of comfort, performance or fuel economy.
All this beauty and power comes with a hefty price tag. Unlike the Audi A7, BMW’s 640i Coupe lands squarely in the rarefied air of a Porsche Panamera. Once you add on the various packages most buyers will select (Driver Assistance Package with head-up display, parking assistant, etc.: $3,700; Luxury Seating Package: $3,600; M Sport Package with 19- or 20-inch M double spoke wheels and M aerodynamic kit: $4,200, or $5,500 if you go for the 20s) and other options, the 640i or 650i price will spike around six figures or beyond. Is it worth it? Well, that depends on how much you value owning one of the most beautiful, dynamic cars on the road.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid gets 1st win: La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice before injuring his leg to steer Real Madrid to a 3-0 home win over Granada on Sunday, the defending champions' first victory after three rounds of the Spanish season.

Barcelona, meanwhile, edged out Valencia 1-0 thanks to Adriano's first-half screamer to remain perfect after three games and lead the standings.

Madrid displayed little of the attacking flair it unleashed to topple Barcelona in the Spanish Supercup earlier this week, but Ronaldo's first league goals this season proved more than enough against the modest talents of Granada.

Ronaldo scored in the 26th and 54th minutes before leaving the pitch grimacing and favouring his left leg following a tackle by Borja Gomez that cost the Granada defender a second booking.
The Portugal striker chose not to celebrate his goals.
"I am a little sad. When I don't score goals I am not happy," Ronaldo said, enigmatically adding that he was displeased for "professional" reasons with "people inside the club."

With Granada down a man, Gonzalo Higuain scored in the 76th to seal the much-needed win. Madrid had only one point after the first two rounds.
"Ronaldo is an important player for us, he is our goal-scorer," Madrid defender Sergio Ramos said. "I hope he takes advantage of [this week's] international break and gets better soon."
Later, Barcelona looks to stay perfect in the league against Valencia.

The Healing Brush Tool in Photoshop

This is a very basic tutorial to show to you how you can use the Healing Brush tool in Photoshop. In this tutorial, we will make use of an image of a flower covered with little drops of water. We will then use Photoshop’s healing brush to select an area on that flower, and remove the drops of water from it. You got to applaud Photoshop for the brilliant algorithms that it makes use of, because a simple touch of the healing brush tool will make an otherwise difficult process extremely easy.
1. Open any image in Photoshop. This is the image we will be using for this tutorial.

2. Zoom into the image and onto the area that you want to work on. (CTRL + +)
3. Select Photoshop’s Healing Brush Tool.
Set the healing brush setting as per your requirement. This is the setting I have made use of for the healing brush in this tutorial:

4. Next, apply Photoshop’s amazing healing brush onto the area and bingo, you are done.

That’s it

Miami Beach: 1959 Vs. 2012

Fontainebleau Hotel

Then: Founded in 1954, the famed Fontainebleau was the jewel of the Collins Avenue crown and came to typify mid-century American resort culture. Designed by Morris Lapidus in the neo-Baroque style—Lights! Color! Visual excess! —the hotel opened with 514 rooms and several lounges, and became the hub of Miami Beach nightlife and culture. The Fontainebleau hosted world-famous entertainers like Frank Sinatra (who did a two-week residency in 1961) Elvis Presley and Dean Martin. So well-rooted was the hotel that it successfully beat down a 1959 injunction to prevent the construction of a new tower that would block sunlight from reaching the grounds of the neighboring Eden Roc. The Fontainebleau was so famous, in fact, that it could get away with charging tourists (aka, non-guests) a fee for just a view of the hotel and grounds.

Now: The Fontainebleau has suffered periodic bankruptcy scares since the 1970s, as well as a drop in status from its Hollywood glory days, but the famed hotel has nonetheless remained open throughout the years and changes in ownership. In 2008, a half-billion-dollar upgrade allowed for two new towers, bringing the hotel to 1504 guest rooms and a section of condos. But 2009 was a hard year for the hotel, for which cultural cachet is still king: a 2009 Wall Street Journal article detailed further debt problems carried by the Fontainebleau’s parent company, casting doubt on the future of the once prosperous resort. Two-thousand-nine also brought the murder of Ben Novack Jr., son of the hotel’s original owner, and his wife, alleged to have arranged the crime, awaits trial while Novack’s family argues over who gets the inheritance. Most recently, the Fontainebleau has made headlines for providing setting to an altercation between LeBron James’ mother and a hotel parking attendant. Classy stuff indeed.

Eden Roc

Then: Another Lapidus design, the Eden Roc (of aforementioned “don’t steal my sunshine,” fame) opened in 1956 and was immediately dubbed—by its owners—the Grande Dame of Miami Beach. Much like the Fontainebleau, Eden Roc has a rich history of celebrity guests and entertainers. Hollywood legends like Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart made multiple stays. The resort’s many cafes, lounges and restaurants were venues to acts like Harry Belafonte and Nat King Cole, who performed in a popular nightly supper show in Café Pompeii. Several episodes of I Love Lucy were filmed at the Eden Roc hotel.

Now: The formerly glamorous and steeped-in-status Eden Roc is now a Marriot. Though it’s still calling itself the Grand Dame of Miami Beach, and retains some of its heyday mystique, Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach just doesn’t have the same ring. Nonetheless, the decades have passed relatively happily at the Eden Roc, though rear-view mirror malice seems to have crept in. A certain corporate website details the envy-driven construction of Fontainebleau owner Ben Novack’s “spite wall” in 1962: a 17-story tower with no windows and no balconies (save for those leading to Novack’s own apartment) that blocked out the noontime sun from the Eden Roc’s main pool. But the Eden Roc has emerged from the darkness with the construction of its own tower—21 stories—and a brand new pool, complete with rise-to-set sunlight.

The Deauville

Then: Members of the Rat Pack may have performed at those other Morris Lapidus hotels, but this Morris Lapidus hotel (trend?) is where the famed fivesome actually holed up. Once owned by a five-time married American actress-slash-princess (seriously known as Lucy Cotton Thomas Ament Hann McGraw Eristavi-Tchitcherine), the Deauville could possibly have been the most MIAMI! of all the Miami Beach hotels. Case in point: on the day the Beatles landed in Miami from New York to the likes of 4000 fanatics, they immediately hopped on over to the Deauville and gave their second-ever American performance, broadcast straight from the hotel’s Napoleon Ballroom on the Ed Sullivan Show. Princess Lucy for the win.

Now: Watch out, the stars still roam the Deauville Beach Resort: They’re hosting WrestleReunion 7 this April. Much like the Eden Roc and the Fontainebleau, the Deauville has survived through the years with a number of ownership changes, some tumultuous. In 1949, Princess Lucy died of an apparent overdose and a race to claim ownership of the hotel began. The property had been in litigation for 8 years (7 of them prior to Princess Lucy’s death), when a New York hotelier put in a winning bid. The hotel lives, but the legend seems to have died with its most famous owner.

The Beachcomber Club

Then: One of the more boisterous clubs in Miami Beach, The Beachcomber offered a number of entertainment choices over the years. Early on, they put on risqué burlesque shows for the after-dark crowd. But the Beachcomber found its stride in music and comedy, becoming a favourite for entertainers like Martha Raye, who made several stints during the winter seasons and made headlines when she collapsed before going on stage. Clubs like the Beachcomber, The Latin Quarter and Copa City helped to put Miami Beach nightlife on the map, and drew in the crowds that allowed for the many resorts to flourish.

Courtesy of the Florida Photographic Collection
Now: The Beachcomber Club no longer exists, having been replace by an empty lot. As popular as it was, the Beachcomber was no stranger to drama. A 1949 fire gutted the club to the tune of $25K, and though it reopened, the Beachcomber Club was never able to regain momentum. With the rising popularity of Miami Beach resort culture, and the decision by most hotel owners to open in-house night spots, the independent club scene began to falter. The Latin Quarter was obliterated in flame, and the Copa Club shut its doors in the mid-1950s. The Beachcomber followed suit, and passed away into Miami Beach h

MINI John Cooper Works Coupe

When Dario Franchitti and Ashley Judd pulled up to a post-Indy 500 party in 2010 in a blue-and-white Mini Cooper—mere moments after Dario had taken the checkered flag at the Brickyard—all doubts about Mini’s macho cred dispelled. And recent styling moves have made this iconic British sports car even more appealing to the eye, especially when you add in the track-tuned John Cooper Works premium package. When Mini debuted their first two-seater last fall, they also bowed a posh big sibling in the John Cooper Works coupe that is plain nasty looking—black alloy wheels, dual center-mounted exhaust, a significantly increased raked roofline in contrasting colors; even an active spoiler to improve aerodynamics at speed.
The John Cooper Works coupe packs a 208 horsepower turbo under the signature two-tone hood, and the nimble suspension will have you re-creating the heist scene from The Italian Job on every curvy road you encounter. Yet for all that performance, the coupe has practicality. The hatch pops open to reveal a surprisingly cavernous trunk, suitable for throwing in your better half’s bags for a romantic weekend escape. Just be careful: She might get jealous when your car turns more guys’ heads than she does.
Style factor: Leather-wrapped steering wheel, well-appointed interior, booming Harman-Kardon sound system and of course the big center-console-mounted speedo, and major curb appeal
Fiscal factor: The sticker above 38K might strike some as a steep price to pay for this slick coupe
Fun factor: With good power-to-weight ratio and taut suspension, this car just begs to be thrown into corners
